What do I need to use Freading?

  • A Pikes Peak Library District resident library card number (resident card numbers start with a 4) and PIN.

How Freading works:

Upon logging in with your PPLD library card number and PIN you will see a splash page come up, with an easy 1-2-3 guide to enjoying eBooks.

  • In the upper right corner of the site, you will see information regarding your account. Specifically, you will see the weekly checkout limit displayed.  For example: 0/3 or 1/3.
  • The checkout limit is set by PPLD. The weekly checkout limit is 3.  If you use 1 checkout, the counter will display1/3.
  • Unused book loans roll over to the following week.
  • Every 4 weeks, unused book loans expire. An individual loan is for 2 weeks and may be renewed for an additional 2 weeks.
  • On both the website and mobile app, an Adobe ID is required to access books.
  • However, if you are using a PC, you will need to install Adobe Digital Editions to read them.
  • After you install Adobe Digital Editions, you need to authorize the program with your Adobe ID. Directions here.

In order to use Freading on your computer, you will need to install Adobe Digital Editions. Adobe Digital Editions is a software that enables you to read the books you have downloaded from Freading.

Freading EPUB and PDF books are wrapped in the Adobe software, which acts as a digital rights management.  This software limits the loan period, and prevents copying.

For Adobe Digital Editions to open your library materials, you will need to authorize the program with your Adobe ID. For instructions on how to do so, click here.

Check out the title you wish by logging into Freading with your library card number and PIN, then clicking on the read download button under the cover of the book.
