Makerspace Staff Guide: Equipment Maintenance

Silhouette Cameo Troubleshooting

One common issue with the Cameo Pro is the autoblade not cutting all the way through material. To resolve this issue, staff/patrons have found the following tips helpful:

  • If the hole the autoblade sets its depth in (pictured below) gets filled up with gunk, then it can interfere with the blade setting itself to the right depth. You can use a little pick or some compressed air to clean it out.

  • Debris can also build up inside the autoblade. See the link below for an article on how to clean out debris from the autoblade

Another common issue is the Cameo Pro not cutting in the right spot. To resolve this problem, the Cameo Pro can be recalibrated:

  • All you have to do is turn off the machine and move the carriage by hand from the starting end, all the way to the end of the track, and then back to the start. Then turn it back on and you should be set.  You can wipe down the carriage rails as well. See the link below for more details.

A third common problem is the material drifting while cutting, especially if using the large mat or large rolls of vinyl.

  • This can be caused by not loading the vinyl perfectly straight - if the vinyl is loaded with even a very slight angle, it can cause the material to slip out from one of the pinch rollers and start drifting.
  • It can also be caused by forgetting to lower the lever for the roller bar or not having the rightmost roller fully on the edge of the material.

Below are a few resources on on how to avoid this problem.
