Makerspace Staff Guide: Equipment Maintenance

Covers routine maintenance for makerspace equipment.

Laser Routine Maintenance

Keeping up with routine maintenance on the lasers not only keeps them performing optimally for patrons, but also greatly reduces the risk of fire and damage to various parts.

The following tasks should be done between once a week and once a day depending on usage:

  • Clean the lens
  • Clean the mirror
  • Empty debris from the cutting table

For details on performing these tasks and the monthly/quarterly tasks, check out the guides linked in the box below.

Troubleshooting

If you are troubleshooting the laser without a clear indication of what is wrong, you can start by:

  • checking the patron's file for issues
  • checking that the correct settings were used
  • making sure the laser has been focused
  • checking that no routine maintenance tasks need to be done

The links below offer some additional info on resolving specific issues that commonly occur.
