Displays in the makerspaces are a great way to showcase the equipment capabilities and give patrons ideas for what they can create. They also provide great talking points when giving tours and introducing people to the space. To help facilitate these aspects of the displays, they need to be kept tidy and appealing to look at.
One central display area should be selected.
Displays should be kept uncluttered and focused on high level examples that can give people ideas. No more than 2-3 items of any type should be on display. Ideally the items made from the same equipment will showcase different aspects of what that equipment or software can do.
The only logo on display items should be that of PPLD.
Items on display should focus on being educational about some aspect of the equipment or software.
Items on display should follow creative space policy guidelines, including not having items that would fall under any kind of intellectual property law.
Use the Canva template for “Made at PPLD” to make documents to sit next to each equipment-type examples in acrylic holder. These cards allow you to fill in information on what the item is and what equipment, software, and techniques were used to create it.
Patrons must give staff the item they wish to hang on the bulletin board.
Staff date the item with either three months from the date or the day after the class/event will happen. Staff should also initial the item.
Staff check the bulletin board weekly to keep things looking nice and remove anything outdated, that doesn’t fit the guidelines for the bulletin board, or didn’t go through staff approval.
The official disclaimer should always be visible on the bulletin board. It is available on the Intranet if a new copy needs to be printed. They can be found on the CrS site under Helpful Information.
