General Information

To use a printer you will need to be "badged." Visit the Badging tab on the left for information on how to complete the badging process.

  • Please use PrusaSlicer to estimate how long your 3D print will take ahead of time. This way, when you make a reservation you can be sure your print will be able to finish within the allotted time.

  • For Reservations and Walk-ins:
    • Depending on the makerspace, you will choose between two printers:

      • Prusa MK4 – Print area is 250 x 210 x 220 mm (9.84 x 8.3 x 8.6 in)

        • 1 hour minimum, 6 hours maximum

        • Available for reservation and walk-in at Library 21c, East Library, and Sand Creek Library.

      •  Lulzbot Mini 2 – Print area is 160 x 160 x 180 mm (6.30 x 6.30 x 7.09 in)

        • 4 hours maximum

        • Available for reservation or walk-in at Manitou Springs Library

    • Each individual can make two reservations per month to use a 3D printer.
    • Staff may cancel a reservation after 15 minutes if no one has checked in.
    • There are no limits on the number of walk-ins per month; walk-ins are allowed anytime the printer is not in use or reserved.
    • You will need to stay with your print for the first 30 minutes (according to the LCD screen on the Prusa) to ensure that it is printing correctly.
    • If a print fails in the first 30 minutes, you may attempt to restart it. If it fails after you leave, staff will not be able to restart the print for you, but you will receive an email letting you know what happened.
    • Use the link at the bottom of this box to reserve a 3D printer. Reservations can be made up to one week in advance.

  • Filament:
    • PPLD provides PLA and PETG in assorted colors for use with our 3D printers.  Patrons are not allowed to bring outside filament for use with PPLD machines.

  • Cost and Pick-up:
    • In every session, you will have access to $1 worth (20 grams) of 3D printing.

      • This amount is calculated from the standard $0.05 per gram rate for printing. Anything over that amount will be charged at the usual $0.05 per gram rate.

    • If staying with your print:
      • You will bring it to staff to be weighed and the total will be charged to your library card account.
    • If leaving your print:
      • Staff will weigh your print and charge your library card account.
      • You will receive an email notifying you that your print is complete.
      • You will have 30 days from completion to pick up your print before it is recycled.

  • To use the makerspaces:
    • If you are under 18, you must submit a completed Creative Space Use Agreement (linked below). You can request one at any makerspace desk, or print one out and bring it to a makerspace staff member.
    • Adults must agree to the Creative Space Use Agreement terms when making a reservation or when checking in.
    • Printers are only available during each spaces' Open Hours.
