Academics & Academic Support

Year-round, one-on-one tutoring for students with dyslexia (or other reading difficulties) to improve comprehension, fluency, spelling, writing, executive functioning, and math skills. Orton-Gillingham methods include: systematic, explicit, multisensory instruction for reading and spelling, incorporating a variety of handwriting and strengthening activities when needed. Each lesson is tailored to the individual student in order to build their unique strengths and weaknesses. General elementary math and reading support is also available. Virtual sessions in any time zone and face-to-face in the Colorado Springs area. Available evenings and during the day for homeschool students. 13 years tutoring experience, 11 years teaching, including 4 years as a dyslexia specialist. 30, 45, and 60-minute sessions available.

Adjunct English faculty member at Pikes Peak Community College and private tutor.

English curriculum specializing in grammar including sentence structure, punctuation, paragraph construction, and other basic writing skills. Reading improvement curriculum including English as a second language, pronunciation, and voice diction. Editing formal papers for Modern Language Association (MLA) style, including master degree thesis and doctoral dissertation. Also available for home school help.

Solutions Tutoring

Margaret Emery at Solutions Tutoring is a CO Licensed Professional Teacher (Elementary Education.) As a private tutor, she works with K-8 students who struggle with issues in reading (dyslexia,) math (dyscalculia,) and ADHD. Sometimes these students have an official diagnosis and/or an IEP, while others do not. Ms. Emery carries out reading remediation and instruction in all aspects of literacy (letter-sound recognition, decoding, sight words, spelling, fluency, comprehension, writing, story analysis) and also instructs students with dyscalculia in math and pre-algebra. Her training and experience includes the Orton-Gillingham approach, Barton Reading, and Lindamood Bell. Margaret Emery at Solutions Tutoring has been successful in helping many students overcome their learning difficulties to become good readers and to accomplish math skills.
