Knife edge ridgelines. Sheer cliff faces. Furious stretches of churning whitewater. Why are we drawn to activities that could hurt us? Learn to examine the elements of adventure and how to properly assess risk and how to share this in a reassuring way with loved ones. Join author and adventurer Eric Sprinkle as he discusses the “why” of adventure and risk-taking.

There is no registration required for this free program.

Eric Sprinkle is an author, speaker, and adventurer with a passion for drawing disengaged men and woman back into a life that’s challenging, exhilarating, and eye-opening. Founder of “Adventure Experience”, he has traveled around the world, taught swift-water rescue for the U.S. Air Force, and now speaks on risk-taking and the joy of living ‘a slightly more dangerous lifestyle’. Eric calls the beautiful playground of Colorado Springs, Colorado his home.

A PPLD and Mountain Equipment Recyclers Partnership Speaker Series

Date: November 8, 2018

Event: Outdoor Films & Photography

Location: Ivy Wild School

Speaker: Chris Alstrin

Time: 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM

Description: Colorado filmmaker Chris Alstrin is a longtime climber whose work reflects his passions for photography, film, and adventure. Alstrin has documented such athletes as Tommy Caldwell, Guy Lacelle and Mike Anderson on rock, ice, cracks, and boulders around the world. His work has taken him from alpine pitches in the Himalayas to the deserts of Namibia and the crack country of Utah, chronicling stories of first ascents and bold projects. He has worked for such clients as Art-teryx, Beal Ropes, and Petzl. His feature film WideBoyz (Mountainfilm 2013), which was first seen in a teaser form as a part of Sender Films' Reel Rock (Mountainfilm 2012), follows two off-width-obsessed British climbers as they attempt to ascend the hardest big cracks in the U.S.

This program is a partnership with the Colorado Department of Education, State Library, local library systems, and Colorado Parks and Wildlife. It is meant to encourage Coloradans to visit our State Parks and experience all of the great outdoor recreation that this state has to offer. Libraries across the state are offering "Check Out State Parks" passes, each for distribution with an activity backpack containing binoculars, brochures and other educational materials to library patrons.
