New to Colorado

This guide offers information covering state and local resources for new residents.

Welcome to Colorful Colorado!

Pikes Peak Library District resides in El Paso County, which is one of 64 counties in Colorado. Our county includes over 655,000 residents and a profusion of local wildlife. With an elevation of about 6,035 ft, Colorado Springs is the county seat. We are also home to famous outdoor spaces, such as Pikes Peak, Garden of the Gods, and the Manitou Incline.

Upon moving to a new area, there are a few tasks that need to be accomplish. These include applying for a Colorado driver's license, titling, and registering your vehicle with the state, as well as registering to vote. If you're active duty military that was recently stationed at Fort Carson or Peterson Air Force Base, you may have certain exemptions and/or requirements that pertain to your service status. Also, becoming familiar with local government services and being prepared for winter weather conditions can be helpful.
