Mountain of Authors

This guide provides information about a free annual community program for local authors and writers.

MOUNTAIN OF AUTHORS PRESENTS BOOKFEST

SATURDAY, MAY 2 - LIBRARY 21c - 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.

PIKES PEAK LIBRARY DISTRICT PRESENTS THE 14TH ANNUAL MOUNTAIN OF AUTHORS!

This year Mountain of Authors will be presented in two parts: A spring program called Bookfest, a celebration of books, authors, readers and reading, and a fall program focusing on bringing together resources for aspiring and established writers.

Bookfest is happy to announce that Barbara O'Neal will be this year's keynote speaker. 

We are looking for published authors (either traditionally published or self-published) to be Showcase Authors.  As a Showcase Author, you

  • Are able to showcase your books to program attendees and other authors.  You will have a table of your own to set up and present your books and associated author information.
  • Get your biography and author photo printed in our 14th annual Mountain of Authors presents Bookfest program, web site, and program slide show.
  • Sell and sign your books (Friends' of Pikes Peak Library District handles all book sales for a 20% commission).
  • Hear a panel presentation and the keynote speech delivered by bestselling author Barbara O'Neal.
  • If interested, be one several authors to give a brief Book Buzz presentation about you and your recently published or forthcoming books.  (These authors will be selected at random... please indicate your interest when filling out the form)
  • There is no charge to participate as a Showcase Author.  We'll even provide a light lunch as well as have drinks and snacks available.  Family and Friends are welcome to attend!
  • Interested authors are welcome to apply between February 5 through February 21 via the link provided.  Selected authors will be notified around Monday, March 2.  If you have any questions, please email us at moa@ppld.org.
  • Please note... while preference is for authors who live in, have connections to, or have a setting in or write about the Pikes Peak region, we welcome authors from across southern Colorado and the Front Range to apply.

Selection Criteria for Showcase Authors:

  • Relevant to community needs and interests,
  • Favorable attention to critics, reviewers, and the public,
  • Reputation/qualifications of author, artist, publisher, or producer without regard to political, religious, or other affiliations,
  • Date of most recent publication should be within the last 2 years,
  • Artistic merit, literary value, or recognized award recipient,
  • Local or national significance,
  • Permanence or timeliness of published works,
  • Quality of presentation in relation to content and audience,
  • Representation of various cultures, viewpoints, and interests,
  • Self published/subsidy published works must be reviewed by established publications.
